Cameroon Central Africa musical instruments

Cameroon, in the region of Central Africa bordering the Atlantic is country where the many indigenous as well as foreign populations create an Africa in miniature, rich in cultural diversity. More than 240 local languages are spoken, each one representing an ethnic group with its own rich traditional art activities. These art-focused activities are phrases Kengmo lovingly translates into a moving, energized song of life. They speak of sacred and secret initiations and protective purification ... of joyous celebrations of birth, of life and of death ... of moonlight meetings of youth and the preparation for war.

Now, American audiences can experience this man's charismatic gifts just as those in Europe and his native Cameroon, demonstrating many items over their roaring acclamations.

Map of AfricaCameroon is called “Africa in miniature” by many because of its great cultural, ethnic and geographic diversity. It is located on the West Coast of Central Africa. More than 240 languages are spoken. The people born into each language group share a rich history, with age-old customs, beliefs and cultural activities that distinguish them from other peoples. Kengmo has visited many of Cameroon’s distinct communities, working with the elders (the guardians of the past) in each to help preserve Cameroon’s dances, music and stories. This is especially important today because Cameroon and Africa are constantly changing under the influence of the Western colonization and its economic dominance. Kengmo is convinced that the West would benefit from respecting Africa’s traditions and from learning more about them, so he works full-time to preserve and share Africa’s rich heritage.

As guardian of his homeland traditions in Baleveng, Cameroon, Kengmo brings alive his heritage with vibrant authenticity. As dancer, story teller, choreographer and musician, he masters the art of communicating that heritage joyfully, proudly. And as educator, Kengmo's heritage is the key to rediscovering your own roots.Map of Cameroon Central Africa
